Fishing the Mörrum: A Complete Guide to Pool 15 and the Beats

The Mörrum is Sweden's most famous salmon water, run as the Kronolaxfiske fishery. If it's your first visit, here's how it all fits together.

The beats

The classic pools run from 1 to 32 over about 7 km. In total the fishery covers roughly 18 km across five stretches (Classic, Vittskövle, Knaggalid, Härnäs and Svängsta). Each beat has its own character — a beautiful mix of rapids and slow-flowing water winding through lush Swedish forest.

Pool 15

Pool 15 is one of the river's most legendary spots — and it's a one-minute walk from Mörrum River House. Being able to step out of the door and be fishing in a minute is worth a great deal.

What you'll catch

Atlantic salmon and sea trout — and among the largest on earth. The river is famous for fish of 20+ kg. The season runs 1 March to 30 September.

How a day works

You'll need a fishing permit for the Kronolaxfiske beats (available via Sveaskog). Match your tackle to the season: deep and slow in cold spring water, lighter and smaller as it warms. A fridge in the house cellar keeps your catch.

Choosing a beat

The five stretches fish differently. Classic holds the numbered pools 1–32 and is where most first visits happen. Vittskövle, Knaggalid, Härnäs and Svängsta spread the remaining water across roughly 18 km in total, and each is booked separately. If it is your first trip, the Classic stretch keeps everything within walking distance and puts you among other anglers who know the pools.

On the bank

Flows shape the day more than the calendar does. Spring runs high and cold — roughly 100 down to 30 m³/s at 0–10 °C — while high summer settles to a stable 7–15 m³/s, which is when night fishing comes into its own. The season runs 1 March to 30 September. A fridge and freezer for the catch matter more than most people expect on a week-long trip.

FAQ

Do I need a permit? Yes — the Kronolaxfiske beats require a fishing permit, available from Sveaskog.

How close is the accommodation to the water? Mörrum River House is a stone's throw — about a one-minute walk — from Pool 15.

Which stretch should a first-timer book? The Classic stretch. It holds pools 1–32 within about 7 km, so you can walk between them, and it is the part of the river most people can describe to you.

Can I fish at night on the Mörrum? Yes, and in high summer it is often the better choice: flows are low and stable at 7–15 m³/s and the water is at its warmest, so fish move in the dark.
